Whale sharks are endangered – how you can help

Whale sharks are the world’s biggest fish and they aren’t actually a whale, but a shark. Sharks are also a type of fish.

Their scientific name is Rhincodon Typus. This is derived from the Greek words rhinos (rasp) and don (tooth). And the word typos is from the Latin word, type – which means the whale shark is the 1st or foundational member of its species.

They can grow up to 20 meters and weigh like 40 tons!

Each whale shark has a unique constellation pattern, just like our fingerprints.

They cannot bite or chew, they’re filter feeders through their gills and have around 3,000 tiny teeth to help them crush their food

They don’t have eyelids, so you’ll never get winked at by a whale shark! 🙂

They have teeth (dermal denticles) on their eyes (a bit like bees) to protect them from damage.

They eat krill, plankton and small fish by filter feeding. They often feed need the surface which means they can also ingest floating plastics.

They’re a gentle giant, have never hurt a human and can live to over 100 years old.

Whale sharks are ovoviviparous which means they lay eggs inside, which hatch and then they give birth to live babies about 50cm long.

Whale sharks are on the IUCN’s endangered red list with populations thought to be decreasing

  • Soul cleansers

    Soul cleansers

You may need to recharge or detox from time to time and we all have our different ways of doing that.
For me, I keep returning to a handful of helpful methods and they are:

    Fire

I light a fire 🔥 and sit in the smoke 💨 It’s like having this cloud wash through you and take the stress and worry with it.

    Ocean

The ocean is my soul friend. If I could spend every day by it, I would. Swim in the ocean and absorb the salt.

Salt is such a great cleanser. And sea salt is full of healthy minerals that clean your skin, heal wounds and wash your hair.

    Sunshine ☀️

Sitting in the sun is the best. It warms me, reassures me, recharges and soothes me. It reminds me that each day is a new chance to try again. The sun will rise again tomorrow and we get to do a little better than yesterday.

    Nature

Hang out in nature and breathe the fresh air. I love getting out in the Australian bush where there’s no sounds of the city. Just the birds, a few kangaroos 🦘 and fresh air.

    Stillness

Create stillness. Life is best processed in stillness and quiet. Thoughts and feelings can be heard, meanings deciphered.
In calm and stillness, you grow.

    South West photo trip

It’s a spectacular area of our state. Old growth forrests, big open oceans and huge coastlines. I was fortunate enough to spend a few days down south, mainly Albany area for work.

Ngl, the big forrests and oceans there are calling to me. I would definitely move there for a chapter in life. It’s cooler, bigger, spacious, stunning, sparkly, clear, cold water. Great fishing, crazy coastlines, room for a farm, endless exploring and beautiful country.

I snapped a bit of the area in between work. Hope you enjoy them:
